Ballymaloe is a name that is synonymous with the hospitality and food industry in Ireland. Ballymaloe House dates back to the 1600s, built around a 15th Century Norman Castle. The house and four hundred acres of rolling farmland was bought in 1948 by Ivan and Myrtle Allen. In the kitchen of Ballymaloe Country House, Myrtle Allen created a recipe for tomato relish using the delicious home-grown tomatoes from the family walled garden.
In 1990, Myrtle’s daughter, Yasmin started producing Ballymaloe Country Relish in her kitchen for local shops and restaurants. She quickly out grew this small space and moved into purpose built kitchens in Little Island, Co. Cork, Ireland. Myrtle’s unique recipe has since become an iconic Irish sauce. Over the last 20 years the Ballymaloe Food's range has expanded to include Jalapeno Pepper Relish, Cranberry Sauce, Mint Jelly, Apple Sauce, Steak Sauce, Salad Dressings and Pasta Sauces. Yasmin still lives by the Ballymaloe ethos of using traditional methods and the best quality ingredients in order to create delicious tasting products.
